Why people read it as change
A dragonfly begins as a nymph that lives under water, where it hunts and breathes. When it is grown it climbs out and flies. Adults are agile, powerful fliers that hunt on the wing. Few animals change so completely, and that is the plain reason for the meaning (Wikipedia has the biology).
So the dragonfly is worn for a change you have made or are making: a move, a new job, the end of something, the start of something else. We list it under nature, because that is the simplest way to find it.
What it means in Japan
In Japan the dragonfly is a symbol of courage, strength and happiness, and of rebirth. A Metropolitan Museum of Art entry for a Japanese helmet crested with a dragonfly says the samurai called it the "victorious insect," in Japanese kachi-mushi.
It is not the same everywhere
Some European folklore took the opposite view. English folk names such as "devil's darning needle" show that the dragonfly was once feared there. Wikipedia lists these names. It adds that for the Navajo the dragonfly stands for pure water, and that it appears in Zuni pottery, Hopi rock art and Pueblo necklaces.
