How much does a custom solid gold charm necklace cost?

The five things that set the price

A custom necklace is a sum. Each part has its own price.

1. The chain. This is the biggest swing. At 16 inches in 14K yellow, a Petite oval chain is $635, a Petite paperclip is $998 and a Petite box is $2,556. At Standard, the same three are $2,441, $3,835 and $9,828. The chain comparison shows all six.

2. The link size. Petite, Standard and Jumbo are three steps in weight. A Standard oval chain is nearly four times the price of a Petite oval. Jumbo is a little more than twice Standard.

3. The length. A longer chain holds more gold. A Standard oval in 14K yellow is $2,441 at 16 inches, $3,081 at 20 and $3,729 at 24.

4. The karat. 18K gold is 75 percent pure and 14K is 58.3 percent. In our prices, 18K comes to roughly 28 percent more on chains and 30 percent more on charms. The guide to 14k or 18k explains what you get for it.

5. The charms. Each charm has three sizes, two karats and three golds. Across our 73 charms in 14K yellow, Small starts at $332, and the middle charm costs about $846. The middle charm costs about $1,374 in Medium and about $1,844 in Large. The Glittering Hamsa Charm is $850 in Small and $1,853 in Large.

What else can be in the total

• A Magic Middle connector. The ring at the drop of the chain that charms and a lariat thread through. The Plain Magic Middle in Standard is $480 in 14K and $615 in 18K. The Diamond version is $960 in 14K. Jumbo is $600 in 14K.
• A lariat. A length of extra links added to the chain, priced by link count.
• Shipping. Complimentary and fully insured within the US.

Why solid gold costs what it does

Everything we make in the builder is solid 14K or 18K gold, the same metal all the way through. Charms are set with diamonds. For collection pieces, the diamonds are E to F color and VS clarity, per our craftsmanship page. Each piece is made to order at our Los Angeles bench, not drawn from a stock of finished pieces.
